Who are Bidun People?

Bidun or “unspecified citizenship” are a population group living in the State of Kuwait. This group does not hold Kuwaiti citizenship and do not enjoy the rights that ordinary citizens enjoy.
The number of the Bidoon category in Kuwait, according to the Civil Information Authority, is estimated at 220,000, while some human rights organizations and groups estimate that the number reaches more than 400,000. The Bidoon issue appeared in conjunction with the independence of Kuwait in the early sixties of the last century, as this category was denied the rights of citizenship, to be included under the category “non-Kuwaiti” or “without nationality”. As we approach the conditions in which this category of the population of Kuwait lives, we will look at the past to understand more, and the present, in which the struggles of this population that are currently active continue to demand recognition and full rights.
